Tickets Still On Sale: A Reunited Tears For Fears in NYC
When I discovered that Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal were not only reunited as Tears For Fears but performing in New York on August 19th, I was surprised that it hadn't been a bigger news item because, really, we owe them that. First, amid an 80s era storm of cringingly earnest bands and acts destined to become novelties ,they are among the few who produced a staggering catalog of hits and lesser known treasures that feel just as honest and enjoyable today as they did the first time we heard them. Although I'm certain they've endured their share of corporate campaigning, they also deserve respect for being among those who are also just about their music, without accom... read more>>

NYCGO's Hidden City Curiosities(We offer our take+NYC's best hidden chocolate shop)
We enjoyed the slideshow and details in this post, but some of these spots are far-flung and unpleasant, either in location or condition or are so self explanatory in the photo, they just don't seem worth going out of your way. If you're in the area or or passing by, The Whispering Gallery in Grand Central, The Rooftop Gardens at Rockefeller Center, The Frick Collection, Paley Park, and Pomander Walk are worth a look. While the pneumatic tubes at the New York Public Library are interesting (er, we suppose), we are far more enamored with the fact that you can find the original dolls that inspired the Winnie The Pooh stories An equally lovely discovery: Kee's... read more>>
Shakespeare In The Park, Central Park Summerstage Concerts, 2010 (Al Pacino and Free Lady Gaga Show Alerts..) June 9-August 1
Bottom-toning footwear? Check (try these limited edition only-in-NY-numbers). Friend- unless you're artist Mariana Abramovic (to stand in during bathroom breaks)? Check, check. Money? Don't need it for free tickets to see Shakespeare in The Park. This year, The Winter's Tale and Merchant of Venice are scheduled, though I' be amiss to leave out the fact that Al Pacino and the Lily Rabe* will be starring in Merchant only. We also love Jesse L. Martin, Max Wright, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste, who went from a heartwrenching performance in Mike Leigh's Secrets and Lies to the detective series Without A Trace, where she and Aussie Anthony Lapaglia spent years impressi... read more>>
Times Square:The Key To The City Project Gives You(And A Select Few) Access To City Sites
Backstage Passes,VIP access, that level of recognition that lets you hop out of the everyone-else line and experience something on a faster, better, you-are-special level. This kind of treatment can sometimes incite boos from the angry masses (hey, would you have insisted on a return to the pleb queue? Didn't think so.Team Bateman on this one). A new art installation, a partnership between Paul Ramirez Jonas and the city of New York, offers the Bateman treatment without the backlash. You can bestow a key to the city to a friend, or have one appointed to you (if you're alone), and unlock sites within NYC's five boroughs that are usually closed to the rest of the public ... read more>>
